Baren L. Berg delivers confidential business consulting and educational programming at the Innovation Park office of the Penn State SBDC.

Prior to his appointment as a business consultant, Baren was a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) in Washington, D.C.  He led a strategic initiative to improve the entrepreneurial culture between the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Veterans’ Administration (VA), Veteran Business Outreach Center evaluation and strategic planning, which included the creation of an Interagency Memorandum of Understanding, and grant funding from the SBA. During his fellowship, Baren also worked with the National Office of Surgery and the Disability Medical Assessment office on special projects, focusing on strategic and implementation plans.

Baren also worked in the biofuels industry, counseling services, and workforce development.  He implemented community and economic development initiatives throughout the Commonwealth. He is experienced in curriculum development and instruction, having taught numerous courses in leadership, management, and professional development.  He presented workshops on topics such as veteran benefits, resume building, and employment of individuals with disabilities.

As an entrepreneur, Baren has experience in starting and operating businesses in Pennsylvania.  He is involved in veterans’ initiatives, through which he passionately inspires others towards community re-integration and peer support.  An alumni of the Wounded Warrior Regiment, Baren has experience with the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Veterans (EBV) program.A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Baren served his country with two combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, having been retired in the Wounded Warrior Regiment and returned to duty.  While on active duty, he completed his M.S. in Organizational Leadership from Duquesne University.
